Shally Bhasin is a Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., with over 25 years of experience in litigation. She graduated from the Law Faculty, University of Delhi, in 1996 and has been an Advocate-on-Record in the Supreme Court of India since 2004.
A seasoned litigator, Shally has been involved in numerous impactful and high-stakes cases, working across a wide range of sectors, including telecom, steel, aviation, infrastructure, financial services, power, oil and gas, and banking. She has represented telecom companies in one of the industry’s largest cases, involving the recovery of around $7.8 billion in license fees by the government, appearing before the Supreme Court, the High Court of Kerala, and the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).
In addition, Shally has appeared before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, and national tribunals, such as TDSAT, NCLAT, NCLT, and NGT. Her expertise covers matters related to financial services, bankruptcy, infrastructure, environment, white-collar crime, tenders, breach of contract, damages, injunctions, breaches of fundamental rights, notifications, taxation, winding up, amalgamation, and de-merger.
As an independent lawyer, Shally advised, drafted, filed, appeared, and briefed senior counsels in the landmark case that led to the decriminalization of homosexuality under Section 377 of the IPC in the Supreme Court. She is currently involved in legal work advocating for the legalization of same-sex marriage in the High Court of Delhi.
